Korean Sweet - Sour Pork

Ingredients

500g pork

Batter

  • 1 1/2 c flour
  • 1/3 c cornstarch
  • 2 t baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 c water
  • salt

Sauce

  • 1 onion
  • 1/2 pineapple
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 2 carrots
  • 125 g mushrooms
  • 4 c water
  • dash soy sauce
  • 4 T vinegar
  • 1/2 c sugar
  • 1 t salt

Instructions

Chop pork finely, sprinkle with sugar and leave to stand. Drain and season well.

Batter

Mix batter together, dip pork pieces in and fry in deep oil. (Alice Loss's recipe uses 2 eggs, 2T flour and 4T corn starch. Mix all pork in together, and then fry.)

Finely slice vegetables and sauté lightly.

Sauce

Cook water and soy. Add cornstarch through salt when boiling. Add vegetables at the last minute.

Serve pork and sauce over rice.
