Melt 2 cups of the sugar and salt in a heavy based pan. Once it is melted, add remaining sugar and nuts. Continue heating till dissolved. Add butter and bicarbonate of soda, mixing in well. Pour quickly into greased tray and spread thinly. Break when cold and store airtight.
