This recipe can be made in a casserole dish, but it works really well in ramekin dishes. Melt the butter and mix in the brown sugar and cinnamon. In another bowl, combine the eggs, milk, and vanilla and mix thoroughly. Slice bread and cut out the desired size piece of bread to fit into the ramekins. Spoon a portion of the Sugar/Cinnamon/Butter paste into the individual ramekins. Place a piece of bread into each ramekin and cover the bread with about half the Egg/Milk mixture. Repeat the process, adding another layer of Sugar/Cinnamon/Butter paste, Bread, and Egg/Milk mixture to each ramekin. Place the ramekins into the 9x13 baking pan and fill the pan halfway with hot or boiling water. Bake for 15-20 minutes at 350F, or until done. This recipe makes between 3 and 6 ramekins of French toast.
