Bulgogi-style skillet

A richly flavored Korean style beef dish, served with rice

Ingredients

  • 1/4 c chopped green onion, white and light green parts only - reserve green parts for garnish
  • 1/4 c reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 2 1/2 T brown sugar
  • 2 T minced garlic
  • 2 T sesame oil
  • 1 T sesame seeds
  • 1/2 t black pepper
  • 1/4 t cayenne pepper
  • 1 pound beef OR boneless, skinless chicken breasts, sliced
  • 2 c cooked rice
  • Crushed red pepper for serving

Instructions

Whisk together onion, soy, sugar, garlic, sesame oil, sesame seeds, black pepper and cayenne in a bowl.

Cook meat and sauce in skillet over medium high heat. Stir until chicken is cooked and sauce reduces slightly, about 6 minutes.

(Watch saltiness. I have diluted with water and added cornstarch to thicken slightly.)

Serve with rice. Garnish with green onion and crushed red pepper. (I have served with noodles as well.)
